The Online Trust Alliance (OTA) is a non-profit with the mission to
enhance online trust, while promoting innovation and the vitality of
the internet.
OTA’s goal is to help educate businesses, policy makers and
stakeholders while developing and advancing best practices and tools
to enhance the protection of users' security, privacy and identity.
OTA supports collaborative public-private partnerships, benchmark

- To
develop and promote best practices, data sharing and solutions to help protect
consumers and sites from malicious advertising.
Email Security & Authentication
- To address deceptive email and spear
phishing the committee works to promote adoption for
email authentication standards and best practices for interactive
marketers, ISPs, enterprise and government agencies.
Data Protection & Breach
Readiness Planning - The development and
advancement of best practices and prescriptive advice to enhance
data protection practices and promote data loss and breach incident
planning.
International
- To stimulate the online
trust by creating partnerships and cooperating with stakeholders
worldwide. Online trust is an international issue that transcends
individual interests, technology and geographical boundaries.
Privacy -
To enhance consumer choice and control of
the collection, use and sharing of their data, while promoting the
value consumers received from data driven services.
Programming & Education
- To develop educational priorities,
strategies and curriculum including
the OTA Academy, to provide actionable and prescriptive advice to
help protect online brands, intellectual property and consumers.
Public Policy -
As a 'voice of reason" the committee works
across the ecosystem with industry, business, government and
consumer groups to promote the adoption of balanced legislation,
self-regulation and best practices.
SSL
- To advance best practices in the SSL supply chain including CA
best practices, Always On SSL and emerging solutions to help protect
the integrity of SSL.
